To be fair, these galleries are hardly small outfits, with multiple locations and frequent appearances at fairs like Art Basel and Frieze. Instead, the top dealers are Mor Charpentier, König Galerie, and Tanya Bonakdar. Mega-galleries Pace, David Zwirner, and Gagosian are entirely absent. Our examination of which artists have appeared in the most biennials over the past five years reveals that these international exhibitions constitute their own unique art world, largely distinct from the concerns of the art market and even museums.
